Abstract

The aim of this study is to illustrate the improvement of students' ability to understand the concepts of waves, sound and resonant matter through a discovery learning model. The research here includes PTK or class action research by incorporating plans, actions, observations and reflections of the related spiral Chemis and Taggart's research model. The target is the students of class VIII E of SMP Negeri 2 Pleret, there are 29 students, of which 15 are boys and 14 are girls. Collect data using testing and non-testing techniques. Data collection tools in the form of multiple-choice test questions and study-implementation observation sheets. Quantitative and qualitative descriptions were used for data analysis. The outcome of this study is the observed. improvement in conceptual understanding throughout student KKM completion from each cycle activity. Average student scores increased to 58.36 in Cycle I, 69 in Cycle II, and 81.29 in Cycle III. Cycle III completion rate was 100%. Result of learning implementation in cycle I. Teacher activity is 82.29%, student activity is 78.94%, cycle II is teacher activity 89.24%, student activity is 88.15%, cycle III is teacher activity 92.36%, student activity is 91.66%. We can conclude that applying the Discovery Learning model helps students improve and understand concepts.
